I designed and teach a graduate course named "We're not in Kansas anymore : Data Science Lands in the Real World" in Ecole Polytechnique / HEC joint MSc Data Science for Business.
The corporate world is a high-intensity, high-pace, pathologically under-efficient and potentially irrational landscape. While students are confident to rely, like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, on a sufficiently robust wooden house (please follow the metaphor), we must acknowledge the fact that after entering the tornado that takes them from the classroom to the boardroom, wooden houses fly well but suffer from bad landing abilities.
This course focuses on 1) navigating the real world of big data as a data scientist, a product manager, a digital consultant, a software developer, 2) turning data bricks into a solid house that will resist the corporate twister, and 3) being actively aware that “we are not in Kansas anymore”!
